i remember lydia’s sets well. she was one of the few models i asked who did not reject me when i asked for a shoot, we shot 2 studio sets (ages ago, when i had a day job and was hobbyist).
i lost count on how many rejections i received back then. still do now. when they say no, take it positively and move on to ask the next.
to me, rejection is OK because it makes you (as a hobbyist) motivated and determined. believe me, you will not take your shots for granted, you will shoot like no tomorrow when you are on set. you will also shoot with focus and a purpose because you need those photos you shot for build your portfolio and creditibility.
making mistakes is natural. you learn from it and progress in your next photoshoot.
to be fair, when you ask for a model for a hobbyist type of shoot, and they ask for a fee, pay them. else, if your skillset in on par, you can ask if you can trade by making very sure your shots could contribute to their existing portfolio.
there is no free lunch.
