for personal work, i prefer non smiley shots – why? a “blank platform” for viewers to bounce on, to interpret what this image means to them (its not necessary a must to interpret an image, but its there when its required). a similar non photographic example would be google analytics’s bounce rate – contents of such nature will stick in your mind, like a stubborn fabric stain.
