here is my point of view (as hobbyist) to all of you who are starting out in photography - 8 years ago, when i started photography as a hobby, IF i took the plunge by following certain "rules" *cough* namely like "oh this is how you hold your camera!" "learn about iso, shutter speed and aperture" etc etc etc without spending a certain amount of time to self explore - the most probable results - you wont be seeing what you are seeing in this website of mine.

instead, what i accidentally did was i enjoyed myself by self exploring. i was very stubborn and was not afraid to be laughed at (still am). with this sort of mentality, it gave me the confidence and determination to explore even more - when you have these elements, you'll learn what you want to learn effectively, fearlessly. at a certain point of time, i hated to be labeled as a photographer because its irrelevant to me. i rather try my time to get the images i want than to be label as such.

so that being said - what does this entry means to you ? if you are hobbyist and just starting out - its a form of encouragement to push you to enjoy yourself. explore in the genre of photography you are in. make mistakes, because thats part of the learning process. if you want to read a little more in this subject matter in length, i posted a looong note in my facebook group

have loads of fun in your hobby.

here is a community service for any of you, brides-to-be , IF you want to have a similar (reason why its termed as "similar" is because photographers are not photocopy machines) shot like the above, with a similar mood, tone and feel, you are in luck ! in my opinion, this is the easiest pre-wedding "edgy ala fashion spread" type of feel visual that ANY pre-wedding photographer could achieve, easily. i shot this image in less than 3 mins.

here are some simple suggestions to make this shot in your pre wedding shoot experience memorable - find a suitable corner with a big light source (in my set, i am lucky to have big windows in my studio). place yourself by that corner (in the middle) and wait for your photog to guide you to pose. if he / she keeps quiet, don't be SHY ask for guidance to pose. probable reasons why he/she is keeping quiet is because of waiting to "capture the moment". patiently wait for that "moment", as long as you want. after all, you are PAYING for their time.

sometimes, for these type of shots, some will refer to fashion magazines to help to guide your pose. which is great! however, you have to take note, photos in fashion magazines were made specifically for a certain reason (to sell) and models were specifically casted (a specific look, certain height, body build) for specific photoshoots. therefore, tell your photographer (remember, you are a PAYING customers), this is just a visual reference and he/she have to make you suit to that look (its part of their responsibilities). if you are unlucky to hire someone who don't have a slightest clue in how to pose you, don't  worry, for what its worth, please do enjoy seeing them panic on-set and sweat. the most simple and effective way to check if everything is alright, when the shot is taken, insist to have a look at the shot. check if your bare arms are bigger than your hubby-to-be's thighs (most probably distortion from the camera lenses, but it can be avoided if there are proper guidance by your photographer) then, something is not right.

worst case scenario - if all your shots turned out to be not as you wanted, dont worry. its not end of the world. i known couples who retook their pre wedding sets a couple of times.
