during my photoshoots, i often being asked “whats this?” – thats your gray card moment. its my reference shot when i process my images for a particular set. its not absolute, its part of my workflow. i hate surprises when it involves what i shoot.

i used to use scott kebly ‘s freebie grey card reference ( there is a tear off sheet in his amazing CS photoshop book ) but now i use whilbal - freaking awesome.

what does this mean to a hobbyist photographer ? be conscious about such tools, because one day, when you realise you need such a tool, you know where to acquire such tool and how to use it.
